Chicken Sunday

I would love to live in the setting of Patricia Polacco's book Chicken Sunday. I remember growing up and Sundays were special. When we stayed with my grandparents, we would come home from church and eat Sunday lunch. My grandmother cooked "country". It was delicious. We had fried okra, fried squash, fresh tomatoes, red beans, cornbread, cold iced tea, and peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream for dessert. My brother and I were never relegated to the children's table. We were able to participate in the family conversation. I can still remember by Pa laughing and telling stories about people in the church and the community. I also hear him saying, "Mama. How about a little dessert?" I really miss those days.
